What is Recycled Polyester Staple Fiber (RPSF)?
RPSF is a textile material derived from post-consumer PET bottle wastes. In the process, it recycles plastics into polyester fibres thus reducing the impacts of plastics in the environment. It has properties similar to virgin polyester, tensile strength, durability and resistance to moisture. The material can be applied in different applications such as in textiles and home furnishings, automotive interiors, and non-woven fabrics. Recycling materials help RPSF conserve natural resources, reduce carbon emissions, and promote a healthier closed-loop economy for the textile and manufacturing industries. It is highly resistant to heat, wrinkles, and abrasion. RPSF also has moisture, stain, and shrinkage resistance, meaning products have extended lifetimes and show superior performance.
How is Recycled Polyester Staple Fibre (RPSF) Made?
Recycled polyester staple fibre (RPSF) is produced through a sustainable process that involves collecting and sorting post-consumer PET (polyethylene terephthalate) products, such as plastic bottles. Collected PET is completely cleaned and shredded into minute flakes, melted, and extruded through spinnerets into long thin strands that are then chopped into a smaller length to make staple fibres. These fibres are processed and treated to enhance their strength and texture to be applied in different forms. This processing helps avoid plastic wastes while saving energy compared to the virgin polyester production process.
